I'm a typographical perfectionist myself (at least I try to be) and I should know better than to use hyphens for numerical ranges. A fix for this shouldn't be difficult. In fact, I can probably make it so that if a user does use hyphens, the plugin automatically changes them to en dashes. I'll see what I can pull together for you in a day or two here.
